Baby shower and gifts for new parents
What to give when a baby is born? Here's a list of what parents really need versus what they don't.
The baby shower tradition is growing here. New parents receive many small items, often almost all duplicated. Here's what's truly useful and what to skip.
What works
Practical for the first year:
- Baby monitor (audio and video), high quality
- Stroller or carrier based on parents' preferences
- Car seat in the correct weight category
- Quality crib or cot
For daily use:
- Diapers in larger quantities (trusted brands)
- Baby clothes in sizes 3-6m, 6-9m, 9-12m (newborn sizes get outgrown quickly)
- Bibs, diapers, bathing supplies
Practical for parents:
- Voucher for newborn photography
- Meal service (food delivery for the first weeks)
- Cleaning hours
What we don't recommend
Too much newborn clothing — the baby grows very quickly, most items get used barely 1-2× before being outgrown.
Plush toys — most parents already have plenty, children under 1 year don't use them much.
Very expensive fashion clothing — gets dirty on first use.
Tip for parents
Create a wishlist on zoznamdarcekov and send it to the baby shower. Current needs change every few weeks — the list is flexible. Plus turning on surprise mode in list settings means you don't know who reserved what — packages open beautifully on the same day.
